About Me
I am Rention (Kyriakos) Pasolari, an Aerospace Engineer working as a CFD Engineer and Developer. My focus is on using CFD to solve applied problems across various fields, including fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and plasma physics. I develop custom solvers and specialized tools tailored to specific physical challenges. My professional work is centered on the intersection of computational mechanics and programming, with an emphasis on building functional solutions for applied engineering.
Path & Specialization
Academic Foundation
I grew up in Greece and completed my studies at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics (MEAD) at the University of Patras . My focus shifted toward Computational Mechanics in my fourth year, following a specialized course on numerical methods for solving PDEs in fluid and heat problems. This intersection of physics, mathematics, and programming has been the center of my work ever since.
Doctoral Research
I moved to the Netherlands to complete my Ph.D. at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) . My research focused on coupling OpenFOAM with a Vortex Particle Method (VPM) for efficient and accurate external aerodynamics simulations. During these years, I enhanced my knowledge in CFD aerodynamics and deepened my expertise in the OpenFOAM framework, focusing on the practical implementation of hybrid Eulerian-Lagrangian solvers.
The OpenFOAM Ecosystem
I have worked with OpenFOAM throughout my career, utilizing it for its power and the high level of customizability it offers. The framework’s structure is designed in a way that promotes a deeper understanding of the underlying physics, while its rigorous numerical requirements help ensure consistency and prevent common simulation errors. I value the clean, object-oriented C++ architecture of the library and have followed its significant community growth, which continues to expand its capabilities for applied engineering.
Community & Contribution
I respect the principles of open-science and rely on established community-driven tools such as Linux, Python, C++ and OpenFOAM. Recognizing the importance of these resources in my own workflow, I aim to contribute back to the community whenever time and professional constraints allow. This website serves as a base for that objective, providing a platform to share research materials, specialized tools, and technical insights with the broader engineering and academic community.
Transparency & Impact
Coming from the academic ecosystem, I prioritize clarity for the end-user. I aim to ensure that my developments are accompanied by the necessary documentation and materials to ensure transparency. My goal is to produce work that has a practical impact, balancing technical rigor with the efficiency required in professional engineering.
